What's your cotton?

What sort of cotton do you use to embroider with? Do you choose by brand, or colour, or by what the shop you're in actually stocks? Do you store your cottons in a box, all wound onto spools with their numbers written on ...or do you have a tangled cluster in the bottom of your sewing box?

These are the questions I was pondering as I wound some new threads onto their little cardboard spools this afternoon....and don't say it....I know what you're thinking LOL. I'm a little bit anal about my cottons :)

Apart from a few lonely skeins of Anchor and Semco left over from my teenage years, I'm a DMC girl. They have the most colours, the quality is wonderful, and DMC is the most widely used brand in patterns. Speaking of which, if you're after some cross-stitch/embroidery/ crochet patterns, check out http://www.dmc-usa.com/ ...lots of free goodies that you can download right now!

So...what's YOUR cotton?

I tend to get whatever is called for in the cross stitch I am doing - don't do much stitching otherwise. I do love to look at all the DMC threads when I am at Spotlight though. So many colours, and love the variegated ones. So pretty...

I only discovered your blog a short while ago. So "hi" and thanks for the inspiration.
I'm a DMC girl through and through although I do have a small stash of Anchor threads. I too use little cardboard spools but find that when I get close to the end there are lots of creases in the thread. The thought of having to rewind them on to something else fills me with dread because I have so many!

Me too I am a DMC girl and just as anal as you. All of mine are on the little cardboard stools and all stored in numerical order and to your blog readers dont forget when you are looking at your house insurance go into your scrap room and mentally calculate what you have got. I was amazed just with the DMC threads but when you add in fat quarters and everything else we had all better go and increase our contents.
Whew that was a mouthful.

I just made some cute little sundresses with how-I-did-it instructions if you would like to take a look.

I only use DMC threads as well! They are all on little card or plastic spools and until recently were in numerical order. I have now sorted them into colour order as I don't tend to follow patterns anymore. I have the DMC sample colour chart which I love!
